Cleaning Out, Moving On

I recently took a journey back in time. I decided to clean out my desk and make room for the new additions that current fill my room - and everyone else's bedroom for that matter - as I have outgrown all the space I have. Out came the old letters, the tucked away pictures, old scribbled drawings...everything. It was scary reading the things I had written back when I was ten years old. That was me?! I uncovered all those treasures which I had hoarded away deep in my desk drawers, thinking that I could never part with them.

My cleaning-out helpers
I realized that there are so many things that I left behind since those school days, which weren't really that long ago. Things like my favorite pencil and eraser set which some Korean students had given me back years ago when I was small...that cute little pink kitty bag which contained those dreaded math rulers and guides...pieces of special stationery that I had received...every 35mm film picture that I had ever developed.

A recent KBR advertisement in Homeschool Enrichment Magazine

I found those first letters which I had received after I began publishing KBR, the first sample request which I received after running the first ad in Hidden Wisdom magazine (which is no longer in publication). Yes, I kept it all. And of course all these things are special to read, but there is a time to release unneeded items.

Organizing KBR volumes and back issues

In their place, are now hundreds of books and magazines...my “treasures” now include shipping envelopes and labels, postage stamps, and the stock of KBR back issues and The Family Daughter books.

The old card file system

I did something that I had dreaded doing for over a year. Last year I transferred my KBR subscriber information database from that archaic 3x5" card system to a computer database. But I had dreaded actually getting rid of the old index cards...part of me didn't want to move on from the old method. But this week, it was time. The space is needed. So out they went!

...and in its place is my brand-new 2 TB external hard drive!
Technology is wonderful, and takes so much less space

It feels good to have everything useful and organized - although KBR Ministries supplies still is overflowing my room boundaries, at least now my dad has a place to park his boots: the big box of books is now moved from his office floor!

Lots to clean out!

A Day with Three Cats

...Can be very interesting.
My first pet photo shoot went well, considering the fact that I had to keep the attention of three very "unindulged and highly disciplined" Siamese feline friends.

I learned a few things about pet photography - one being do not just walk into their domain and start taking pictures immediately! They would have been more relaxed if I would have "introduced" myself and my big shutterbug first, and let them get used to me, then photographed them in their normal setting. Live and learn!

The Beauties of Autumn

Thank you, Lord, for the beauties of autumn...

"Give thanks, my soul, for beauty,
For dream and hope and plan,
For Christ, Divine Revealer
Of God's concern for man..."

Falling, colorful leaves...

Clear skies and freshly harvested hay...
Peaceful, quiet rest...

A bountiful harvest...

...and for all the works of Thy hands.

"Show forth, O God, Thy purpose,
Direct our will and hand
To share Thy love and bounty
With men in every land."
-William Watkins Reid,
"Give Thanks My Soul for Harvest"
